An 18-year-old basketball player in West Virginia is facing serious legal consequences after allegedly delivering a violent elbow to an opposing player during a high school game, resulting in a broken nose and multiple felony charges.
Gage Ketterman, a senior athlete at Harman School, was arrested last week following an investigation into an incident that occurred during a game against Union High School. According to court records, Ketterman is accused of striking a Union player in the face with his elbow, causing significant injury.
West Virginia State Police were alerted to the situation on February 27, shortly after the game concluded. The injured student’s mother reported the assault, stating that her son’s nose bled heavily for over four hours and required emergency medical treatment at a local hospital.

Police obtained and reviewed game footage, which supported the claims. According to the report, the video clearly shows Ketterman elbowing the victim in the face. Investigators also noted that Ketterman appeared to wipe his elbow after the incident, raising further suspicion.
In addition to the alleged elbow attack, officers reported that the video depicted Ketterman engaging in repeated unsportsmanlike conduct throughout the game, including striking other players in the back of the head. Troopers concluded that his behavior was not only aggressive but also appeared to be deliberate and malicious.
Due to his age at the time of the incident, Ketterman is being charged as an adult. He faces one count of malicious assault and two counts of attempted malicious assault. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was taken into custody on April 7. He was released the same day after posting a $12,500 bond, court records show.
Ketterman is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary hearing on May 22 as the case proceeds .
