The wait is over—our first eaglet has officially hatched! With one chick out of its shell, two more eggs remain, and we’re hoping for a smooth hatching process for all. Since the eggs were laid three days apart, there’s a chance they could hatch in quick succession. Ideally, this timing will help minimize sibling rivalry, which can sometimes turn aggressive as the eaglets compete for dominance.
In eagle nests, it’s common for the older, stronger chicks to assert their position by pecking at their younger siblings. This natural behavior, known as “bonking,” can be intense and, in extreme cases, even fatal. While it’s a part of survival in the wild, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a peaceful transition as the hatchlings grow.

One major concern is how the eagle dad will handle his role this year. Last season, he tragically eliminated the chicks shortly after they hatched—a behavior not typically seen in bald eagles. Whether this was due to inexperience, stress, or another unknown factor, we can only hope he has matured and will help raise the eaglets successfully this time around. Watching these incredible birds in action is always unpredictable, but that’s part of what makes following this nest so exciting.
As we move forward, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the nest dynamics. Will the remaining eggs hatch within the next few days? How will the parents interact with their young? There’s so much to look forward to in the coming weeks!
