A recent social media post by U.S. Rep. Riley Moore, a Republican from West Virginia’s 2nd District, has ignited widespread debate. The post, shared Tuesday, comes amid ongoing controversy surrounding deportations under the Trump administration, particularly the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported due to an “administrative error” and sent to the notorious Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT) in El Salvador.
Moore, a staunch supporter of former President Donald Trump, visited the high-security facility and expressed his strong backing for Trump’s efforts to “secure our homeland.” In his post, Moore wrote that his tour of CECOT had further solidified his determination to support the administration’s stance on national security.

The post included multiple photos from Moore’s visit, notably two images showing him standing in front of prisoners in their cells. These images quickly sparked a wave of criticism, with many people labeling them “disturbing,” “unsettling,” and “inappropriate.”
As of Wednesday morning, Moore has not provided any further explanation for the visit or its purpose. His original post has attracted thousands of comments, many of which have questioned the decision to publicly share such photos, given the sensitive nature of the prison’s reputation.
Moore is not the only political figure with ties to CECOT. Sen. Chris Van Hollen, a Democrat from Maryland, is scheduled to visit the facility on Wednesday, raising further interest in the ongoing discussions about U.S. policy and its approach to detention centers abroad.
