Cherry Valley, IL – A 25-year-old Illinois man has been arrested after allegedly forcing a pregnant woman to swallow a burning marijuana cigar during a midday assault, authorities say. The disturbing incident also included an unusual demand from the suspect, who insisted on washing the victim’s feet before the attack.
Violent Assault in Cherry Valley
According to police, Benjamin Schroeder ambushed the woman inside their shared home on March 10, dragging her from bed by the wrists and pulling her into an upstairs bathroom. Once there, he allegedly strangled her and then forced a lit “blunt” down her throat, causing severe burns.

Reports indicate that two days prior, Schroeder had also choked and burned the same woman. Authorities have classified the case as domestic violence, though Schroeder’s exact relationship to the victim remains unclear.
Despite the brutal attack, doctors confirmed that the unborn baby was unharmed. However, the victim required medical treatment for burns in her throat.
Arrest and Charges
Following an investigation, authorities located Schroeder in Wisconsin, where he was arrested by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office. He now faces multiple charges, including:
